Question by Phil: Does getting a chocolate present basket?
encourage gluttony, a sin, and if he/she thanks you generously and then gets “large” from eating a lot more than adequate, will you be solely accountable for that man or woman sinning?
Chocolate’s actually very good and I ordered a basket full of chocolates – Ghirardelli and Godiva – for my step-mom as a Mother’s Day present. Must I cancel the order and get her flowers, or a fruit basket as an alternative? Or does a fruit basket encourage gluttony as well?
(I saw stupid questions like this and I never understand if they had been severe or not, but how in the heck can a generous present be considered as a sin? I am asking this sarcastically but I would Love to hear what you Christians have to say.)

no..
(Here’s your sarcastic answer) Of Course it’s a sin! HOW DARE you!!!
Gluttony is about an attitude to make food and pleasure number one in your life and not any specific food. The real question is whether your step mom has a weakness that causes her to be unable to control her eating. If that’s the case, then you might want to help her by not giving her anything that can lead to her hurting herself in this way. If her issue is chocolate, then don’t give it to her. If it’s fruit, don’t give it to her. And, yes, if you do give her something that you know is a problem for her, you are responsible for what you have done.
I certainly learned about a lot of this, but with that in mind, I still considered it was practical. Good blog!
